This photo was captured in Times Square, NYC just after sundown. Because there is a colorful glow in the sky for about a half-hour after sunset, it adds definition and an appealing element to this photo. If I shot this image after the sky was completely dark, it would not look as colorful and detailed. Shooting in the first half hour after sunset injects color into every part of the composition. I shot this photo with a handheld Canon Rebel XS (10 megapixel DSLR) and kit lens with the image stabilization enabled at 800 ISO. The aperture was F:8. As you can see, this setup me allowed you to capture very sharp images without a tripod. At the time, the Rebel XS was the cheapest DSLR camera made by Canon (purchased used for $200 with lens).
