This photo shows a stylish Route 66 hot rod in Albuquerque, New Mexico posing on the old Route 66 (Central Ave.). Albuquerque grew up with Route 66, and has a vibrant custom car culture that is a fitting homage to the ‘Mother Road.’
Camera: Canon 20D DSLR camera and a manual-focusing 40-year-old Tokina SD 28-70mm F:3.5-4.5 lens (this is a Pentax mount lens used with a Pentax-Canon adapter . The 8-megapixel Canon 20D DSLR can be found on the used camera market for less than $100. This used Tokina zoom lens generally retails for about $20 or less on eBay. With a bit of practice, you can capture well-focused images with older manual focusing lenses, and save lots of money in the process.
I used the Topaz Labs Detail 3 Photoshop plugin to extract the maximum sharpness from this image. This plugin uses RL Deconvolution sharpening to reverse the tiny bit of blurring introduced by anti-aliasing filters that are in most DSLR cameras. This can make your photos look as if they were shot with very sharp professional lenses.
