This Northern Pintail Duck was photographed in Papago Park, Phoenix, Arizona. His ‘patent leather’ bill and sharp feathers always remind of a tuxedo. These ducks migrate to New Mexico and Arizona during the winter months, and make a wonderful photographic subject. This photo was shot in the afternoon during the winter when the sun turns the water a sky blue color with golden highlights.
Camera: Nikon D40 and Nikon 55-200mm F:4-5.6 lens. This 6-megapixel DSLR can be found on the used camera market for less than $200. The Tokina lens is somewhat of a cult classic and can be found for less than $100 used on eBay. The Nikon D40 is a very capable DSLR. However, it is not the best choice for using vintage Nikon or third-party lenses.
