Walking, New York City

web design - newark1.comThis street scene, shows pedestrians along 6th Avenue near 42nd Street in New York City, on a winter work day lunch hour. It was captured in front of the MetLife building across from Bryant Park. The billboards advertise an exhibit at MOMA (Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art). It has a vague resemblance to the treadmill metaphor often used to describe modern urban life. Anonymous workers heading for their cubicles and assembly lines . . . I really didn’t plan the shot that way. This setting felt much more joyful when I captured it. The brightness of the streaming sunlight made each figure stand out much like a series of statues. However, the end result feels more somber than it was in person. Perhaps it captures a bit of truth about working in these tough economic times.

I shot this with a Nikon D40 and 18-55mm kit lens. Photo by Don Peterson, Newark1.com Web Design Portfolio.
