Times Square, New York City. An Abstract Collage. ⇑
Because I am in New York City with my camera almost daily, going into Times Square for a few photos is almost too easy . . . and too tempting. No matter how often I go, I am guaranteed to come away with at least one interesting photo. In this photo I tried to create an abstract collage that uses elements of Times Square purely for form and color. I was particularly interested in the play of the predominant blue tones against the red accents in this setting.
My favorite way to shoot in Times Square is handheld, without a tripod. It frees me up to see angles, colors and compositions in free form. The introduction of VR (Vibration Reduction) in lenses insures that I can get sharp photos, freeing me up to compose freely and quickly. I also avoid the clutter of carrying a tripod in a crowded environment like Times Square. Exif info: Camera: Nikon D60, ISO 100, F:8, 1/60, 22mm. Lens: Nikon 18-55mm VR lens (VR on).
