Target Billboard, Times Square

This Target Billboard in Times Square is one of my favorites. It is part of a series of panels mounted on three sides of this building sitting on the corner of 42nd Street and 7th Avenue. This was on display in the late winter months of 2009, and to my eye, feels inspired by the work of famous Belgian surrealist René Magritte. Target billboards stand apart from the usual advertising in Times Square for their high artistic merit. They are usually beautiful layouts that can stand on their own as works of art. There is a very good reason for that. Target selects talented local artists and graphic designers and commissions them for billboard design. That process has made the Target ads a refreshing contrast to much of what is seen in Times Square.
