New York City Color! Like most older cities, much of New York City’s architecture has a rather staid, predictable look. I can remember visiting Ontario, Canada more than ten years ago and wondering why we don’t have strikingly cool municipal buildings like they do? Well, New York is finally showing hints of bolder design, especially in residential high-rise architecture. We can see evidence of bolder uses of color and form in the newer architecture. This photo shows a snippet of that color as we look down 8th Avenue towards 42nd Street.
This photo was shot with my pocket digital camera, a three-year-old Olympus SP-350. The image was captured raw, and converted in a surprisingly capable free raw converter, Scarab Darkroom. This Windows only free software is still in beta. However it is very stable, fast, and has an elegant interface. I highly recommend this software to anyone looking for a simple and very capable tool for quick raw conversions. I’ll be reviewing this software in the days ahead.
