Midtown New York City Rush Hour

Midtown New York City Rush Hour. The day is over and folks are heading home after another workday in New York City (Manhattan). This photo was captured at approximately 7:00 in the evening. Not so long ago, we thought of a typical workday as “9 to 5.” However, that has become more typically 8am to 7pm for many workers. We’re working longer, taking work home, and finding other ways just to keep pace. We are permanently tethered to work by means of blackberries, cellphones and wireless. We have fewer options for career changes, and live with the nagging fear of layoffs and cutbacks. Weren’t we supposed to have flying cars like The Jetsons and robot servants by now? Where’s my utopia?
But on a good note . . . Autumn is approaching in New York City which means the days are shorter and the sunsets prettier. I am beginning to see deeper sunset colors earlier in the evening that make for great cityscape photos. This scene was captured on 34th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan, a block away from Penn Station. Camera: Olympus SP-350 “point and shoot” pocket digital camera. I steadied the camera against a light pole to keep the image sharp (shot at 50 ISO). Image shot in raw mode and converted using Scarab Darkroom, an excellent free software.
