Manhattan Bridge at Night

Manhattan Bridge at Night. There is nothing quite like the New York City skyline! This view includes the Manhattan Bridge that connects downtown Brooklyn (DUMBO) to Canal Street in New York City. It was captured on a beautiful early October evening in Brooklyn Bridge Park (DUMBO, Brooklyn). The key to capturing night photos is to shoot when there is still some color in the sky. Typically, the first 20 minutes or so after sunset is a great time to shoot. You will need a sturdy tripod. This exposure, at F:16 aperture, was for 30 seconds, and would not be sharp without the stability afforded by a good tripod. Also, the small aperture (F:16) produced the star effect you see on the bright lights as well. Finally, if you are shooting digital, do not use Auto White Balance. The camera will try to render the colorful lights as near white. Select Daylight White Balance to insure that the orange and blue tones are bright and vivid.
