Brooklyn Heights is fast becoming one of the most popular residential areas in New York City for the well heeled. For tourists, the Fulton Ferry Landing in Brooklyn Heights is the perfect rest stop if you plan to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge from downtown Manhattan. These photos show images from a section of Brooklyn Heights (NYC) near the Fulton Ferry Landing. This pier offers great views of the New York City skyline and Brooklyn Bridge along with some of the finest eateries in Brooklyn. The top photo shows Brooklyn Ice Cream, known for its great tasting all-natural ice-cream made on premises with top quality ingredients. It’s the perfect “pit stop” after a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. I had the butter pecan during my visit. Great taste! The flavor is more subtle due to the lack of artificial enhancers. But it is genuine butter pecan, and delicious!

This River Cafe (reservations required) and Grimaldi’s Pizzeria are some of the highly rated restaurants in this area. I declined to try Grimaldi’s because of the long line ( 45 minutes, I was too hungry to wait). However, good, healthy fast food can be found all through Brooklyn Heights at modest prices. The Heights has a good variety of ethnic fast food that allows for healthy, tasty eating on the run.

One of the enduring icons of Brooklyn Heights is Bargemusic. Since 1977, Bargemusic has offered chamber music in unique setting—a floating barge moored at the Fulton Ferry Landing. Both established and emerging musicians perform at Bargemusic on a small stage with the dramatic backdrop of the East River and lower Manhattan skyline. It is a charming venue for chamber music lovers. On a summer evening with the lights of Manhattan as a backdrop it is truly special! In addition to chamber music, they have featured small jazz ensembles. The concerts are reasonably priced and the setting offers a delightful change from the normal setting for live concerts. Because of the picture-perfect backdrops of the Manhattan skyline, the Fulton Ferry Landing in Brooklyn Heights is quite popular with wedding photographers. If you visit on a Saturday, expect to see an endless stream of wedding parties coming in to be photographed in this classic New York City setting. Expect to see some construction in progress as the Dumbo area of downtown Brooklyn is in the midst of a real estate boom.
