A Busy Midtown West Street

A Busy Midtown West Street. This photo shows a busy street in the Midtown West neighborhood of New York City (Manhattan) on a busy late summer day. Like many neighborhoods in New York City, it has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity as a residential community. You’ll notice the awning for Cafe M in this photo (to the right) one the many shops in New York that now sell trendy cupcakes burdened with copious amounts of creme filling and frosting. The vanilla frosted cupcake at a similar bakery in New York contains over 780 calories and nearly 36 grams of fat (equal to eating 3 slices of pizza). Add a fat and sugar laden coffee drink to that (an additional 180 to 550 calories) and you have an amazingly unhealthy snack. Its a good thing New Yorkers love to walk. They’ll need to do plenty of it after a feast like that!

This photo was captured in raw mode using a Samsung GX 1S and 18-55mm kit lens (a rebadged Pentax *ist DS). I converted the raw image using Raw Therapee with the AMaZE Demosaicing algorithm selected and RL Deconvolution for sharpening. This image is a good example of how beautifully AMaZe Demosaicing renders very natural shadow detail. Most of the foreground in this photo was in the shadows. However the way it has been rendered by AMaZE looks very natural to my eye.
