The Quiet Beauty, Jemez, New Mexico

Jemez Mountains, New Mexico is my favorite attraction in New Mexico. Blessed with a quiet beauty, its sublimity breathed life into my soul, and reminded me of the extraordinary gifts of our Creator. While the Jemez has no single outstanding feature, what it offers is immediately familiar and comforting: A quiet stream for fishing, a shady nook for a picnic, a quiet drive along stretches of intimate and inviting landscape.

Already, the three years I spent in New Mexico feels like a distant dream. However, the photos I captured can bring back the joys gained exploring the many facets of the Jemez Mountains. I would often finish work and take the short drive from Albuquerque to the Jemez for the late afternoon. As often as I traversed its roads, I never tired of it. The changes in season and light always kept it fresh. These are two of my favorite photos of the Jemez Mountains. Why? They take me back to the colors of the Jemez. The ruddy complexion of the Jemez is adorned with subdued earth tones and pastels during the winter months. These scenes, from one of my many drives along The Jemez Mountain Trail, was captured on a December afternoon. Even now, looking at these views of the Jemez is good for my soul.
