Special Shapes Balloon, International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque
These cheerful hot-air balloons were photographed at the International Balloon Fiesta held annually in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This is probably the most thrilling annual event in Albuquerque, and a photographer’s delight! Attending this event means getting up before the first light of day to be in place for the Mass Ascension as the sun’s first rays break over the horizon. However, the crisp morning air on a clear day, coupled with the excitement of hundreds of colorful balloons being launched around you is an invigorating experience!
The most exciting day of the event (in my opinion) is the Special Shapes Rodeo, usually held on Thursday of Friday of the Fiesta week. This is when hot-air balloons in usual shapes (like the two seen here) are launched in one event. You will see flying houses, cars, cacti, ristras, bottles, cans, critters, giant bees, and more in this colorful, eye-catching event! The 39th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta® the world’s largest hot air balloon festival, is back for another year with 600 balloons. It will be held during the week of October 2-10, 2010.
