NJPAC, Newark, NJ after first snow of season. ⇑
These two photos shows the handsome facade of the New Jersey Performing Arts center (NJPAC) in Newark, New Jersey. Designed by Barton Myers of Los Angeles, NJPAC has a festive urban feel that both elevates and enlivens the spirit of downtown Newark. Unlike many performing arts centers it has a cheerful, approachable design that reflects the wide range of artists and audiences it hosts. From classical to calypso, NJPAC can accomodate it with visual charm and unpretentiousness.
I captured these photos on a winter day after a light snow, using a Nikon D60 and 18-55mm VR kit lens. Shot handheld, I used a polarizer to darken the sky slightly, creating a pleasant contrast to NJPAC’s red brick facade. The snow acts as a light reflector, softening shadows and creating a very even exposure in this setting. Look for more images from NJPAC, coming soon to my Sights & Places Photo Gallery.
