For most of us, there are certain tasks we do that never feel like work, because we are inspired by the mission, the process, or the subject. This flower gallery web design is one of those tasks. I created it about six years ago, inspired by the beauty of flowers beds in the Rio Grande Botanic Garden in Albuquerque, New Mexico. During the time I spent in the dry high-desert environs of Albuquerque, I felt a tiny bit homesick for the spring tulips and other flora of the gardens in New York City. The Rio Grande Botanic Garden took care of that. It was a true oasis in the middle of the desert. This web site was created as a personal project to promote this under-appreciated jewel in the heart of the high desert. I added this quotation from Matthew 6:28,29 (the lilies of the field) to a photo I shot of a lily at the New York Botanic Garden over the summer. A Garden's Simple Beauty

The beauty of nature is never lost in the details. Even its tiniest details are skillfully designed. The engineering and design of even the most “insignificant” elements of nature, such as this lowly garden flower, reveal a genius no human can match. As the science of Biomimetics acknowledges, we cannot improve upon the design and engineering solutions already employed by the natural world.

Bees, Flowers, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn, New York City

This photo showing a bee alighting a summer flower, was captured during one of my weekly visits to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in Brooklyn, New York City. I make it a point to visit either the Brooklyn or New York Botanic Garden one afternoon a week. It is a reminder of the extraordinary design and engineering that fills the natural world. Yet, that design that feeds my heart and soul in a way that no human invention can. As I told a vendor outside of the garden, I leave the garden every week a renewed man.

This image was shot handheld with a Canon Rebel XS, and Canon 55-250mm lens. I used 400 ISO, and the IS (Image Stabilization) feature on the lens to insure that the shutter speed was fast enough to prevent blur.

Beautiful Green Flower

This photo shows a beautiful green flower photographed at the New York Botanic Garden, Bronx, New York. This extraordinary botanic garden is one of New York City’s finest natural exhibits, and a restful diversion from the cacaphony of New York City. It was captured with a Canon Rebel XS (1000d) and tripod mounted Canon 55-250mm EF-S lens. I used the newly released RawTherapee 3.0.0, an excellent, free raw image editor to convert the raw file to jpeg.

Butterfly & Flowers In Abstract

This photo shows a beautiful butterfly amid flowers on an early summer day. The butterfly was in constant motion, as was I, seeking to capture its image. This frame captures the energy and motion of this busy creature in an abstract form. I also find the colors and contrast in this setting quite appealing.
