Dahlia Flower, Orange, Flawed Beauty

This photo shows a flawed but still beautiful orange Dahlia flower at the New York Botanic Garden in the Bronx, New York City. Captured on a humid, hot early July afternoon, it benefits from the colorful garden setting softly blurred in the background. I used a the high-quality, value priced Canon EF-S 55-250mm mated to a Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera to capture this photo. I always have in mind what effect the background will have on the overall composition in flower close-up photos. In this setting, the beautiful colors of neighboring blooms added a complimentary background softly blurred by using a wide lens aperture setting. Photo by Don Peterson.
