Red Flower With Bee, New York Botanic Garden

All Beauty Is Not Perfect, Red Flower With Bee

This red flower may be past its prime, but it is still a thing of beauty. Certainly, that bee seems to agree! This was captured on a hot, humid early July day in the New York Botanic Gardens (nybg.org). The vivid colors in this setting really drew me in. The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras is perfect for this type of photography. When the bees are quite hard at work, you don’t want to get too close. The minimum focus of 1.1 meters (43 inches) on the 55-250mm allows for frame filling close-ups of flowers without disturbing the bees. That’s a good thing! Also, its a very practical lens for use in public botanic gardens where you generally cannot step into the flower beds with a close-focusing lens. I used this great budget priced lens along with my Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera for this photograph. This camera and lens combo makes a great kit for shooting close-up flower photography.
