Northern Pintails (Ducks)

Northern Pintails

This photo shows a male and female Northern Pintail Duck (the male has the dark head) enjoying a winter snack in a fishing lagoon in Papago Park, Phoenix, Arizona. They are one of the species of waterfowl that migrate to the lagoons in Papago Park every winter. The male’s plumage has always reminded me of a sharply tailored tuxedo, including a well-shined “patent leather” beak! This photo was captured on a late winter afternoon with a Nikon D40 and Nikon 55-200mm VR lens.
