Cherry Blossom Trees In The Mist, Branch Brook Park, Essex County, NJ

There are times when no photo can fully convey the beauty of a landscape before you. Today, amidst the cherry blossom trees in Branch Brook Park, I experienced such beauty. The cherry blossoms, coaxed by two days of gentle rains are now in peak bloom. Today’s overcast, misty weather gave Branch Brook a dreamlike softness, like something out of a fairy tale. Needless to say, I took plenty of photos. However, they are not good enough to convey the full beauty of what was before me! You must come down during the Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival and see it for yourself!

In the photo above, I wanted to capture the dark textures of the stately cherry blossom tree limbs set against a soft, misty background near the Heller Parkway entrance to Branch Brook Park.

Cherry Blossoms Photography Tip

Soft, glowing light like the misty conditions in Branch Brook Park today are perfect for capturing the subtle colors and textures around you. However, an overcast sky can look pretty dull in when included in photos on days like this. So I used the 50-250mm to crop out the sky and focus on form, texture and color in the landscape around me. A tripod is advisable one days like this to insure that you get the sharpest possible photos.
