Branch Brook Park, More Than Cherry Blossoms!
Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ is well known for its annual Cherry Blossom Festival ( April 9 – 17, 2011), and is rightfully proud of the more than 4000 cherry blossom trees it hosts. Lesser known, however, is the delightful display of fall color that adorns this park come autumn! I consider one of the finest accessible displays of fall color in the New York City metro area. On a mild fall day, it is the perfect setting for a leisurely walk, offering a canopy of lovely color and light.
I first discovered Branch Brook Park a little more than a decade ago upon taking up cycling as a weekend sport (thanks to inspiration from Lance Armstrong and the Tour de France). It has a excellent road for cycling practice without all of the congestion of Central Park in New York. It is also a beautiful park in its own right, and has become a personal favorite.
This photo was captured in the park during October, 2010. Camera: Canon 10D, Tamron 19-35mm lens. Photography by Donald Peterson.
