This photo shows an old Sand Drag sign captured in beautiful pre-sunset light near the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona. Having lived on the east coast (New York City) I had no clue what a sand drag is when I came upon this scene on old Route 66 near Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona. Although I was eager to make it to Flagstaff (Arizona) before sundown, I had to stop and capture this beautiful light and setting. I’m glad I did! This is one of my favorite images captured on the road. This area, near the Arizona, New Mexico border has striking expanses of flat land. The Petrified Forest is a must see if you are in this area as well. I shot from the side of the road near my car, and used the lens to zoom in. I am very careful not to trespass on private property when shooting this type of photo.
