One of the most memorable places I have ever visited is Sedona, Arizona. As this photo of Cathedral Rock in Sedona shows, it is home to grand monuments carved in red rock. Located in Arizona’s high desert, Sedona is a jewel in the sand, with amazing red rock formations nestled among craggy desert walks and verdant meadows. The ease with which beauty graces this place is a marvel to behold. As you approach Cathedral Rock from Red Rock State Park, gently flowing streams and lively flora clothe a foundation of august red rock. It is easy to see why so many attach a spiritual significance to this place. It inspires awe, and gives silent witness to an intelligence and love far greater than our own.

While the Grand Canyon, Arizona’s most popular attraction, inspires awe by reason of its massive scale, Sedona charms are much more approachable. The Grand Canyon will be seen by most visitors only from a vantage point at its fringes, while Sedona is nestled in the heart of its approachable beauty. Many of Sedona’s natural attractions can be accessed by a short drive followed by an easy hike. A pair of comfortable shoes, and a water bottle is the only equipment needed to see much of Sedona up close. You’re never far away from a healthy lunch or dinner in one of Sedona’s many restaurants and cafes. If you plan to visit Arizona, you must add Sedona to your vacation list. You may find it to be the most delightful gem in the vast array of natural attractions offered by Arizona.
