ASU Downtown Campus, The Mercado, Phoenix, Arizona. ⇑

The Mercado complex is relatively recent addition the the downtown Phoenix, Arizona State University (ASU) campus. I love how the bright, hot summer sun plays with the clean angular lines and shadows of this complex. Its vaguely Mission-style architecture seems to look better the hotter the Phoenix summer sun becomes (and that can be pretty hot). This complex has its controversies due to its history as a failed shopping mall and the political intrigues surrounding that. As a result, many of the locals have a rather negative view of The Mercado although ASU is now making good use of the complex. I just like the way it looks!
