Albuquerque Photo of the Day

This photo was captured on Old Coors Ave., an older section of Albuquerque located in the northwest quadrant. The Mexican heritage of the community is clearly evident in this and numerous other architectural and graphic details in this area. See more in my Old Coors Blvd. and West Central Ave., Albuquerque Photo Gallery.

Albuquerque Photos - Flowers

This photo is from the Rio Grande Botanic Garden, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Botanic Garden is in period of expansion, expanding the gardens of the Heritage Farm, and adding a new Japanese Garden as well. It has a fascinating acquarium that is worth a visit as well!

Albuquerque Photo of the Day

The geology of the Albuquerque / Santa Fe area is rich and diverse. In this photo we see a sample of the red rock volcanic formations that lay along Interstate 25 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe (about 20 miles from Santa Fe). We have made available computer wallpaper versions of this image that you can make a background for your computer desktop here.

Albuquerque Photo of the Day

This is what fascinates me about about New Mexico! I can drive less than an hour from my home in Albuquerque, and enter a scene like the one above. The cost of entry? A couple of gallons of gas and a bit of time! This scene is from the Jemez Mountains, about an hour's drive from Albuquerque. It shows the setting just behind Soda Dam (you need to climb a small embankment to see it), one of the Jemez's numerous natural attractions.

Albuquerque Photos - Very Large Array VLA

Well, the summer approaches and a mans' thoughts turns to travel. Normally this time of year, I would be dreaming of Europe or other far flung destinations. This year, I am staying close to home and exploring the incredible state of New Mexico. This photo above shows one local attraction worth visiting: The Very Large Array. It is an almost otherworldly experience visiting this isolated expanse of land dotted with huge radio antennas. It is about a two hour drive from Albuquerque. It is best combined with another nearby attraction for the day trip like to Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Reserve.
